Important WV811 Change: No Expiration Date and What It Means for Your Responses

Changes to West Virginia 811 Tickets
We want to make you aware of an important change coming to West Virginia 811 tickets that will affect ongoing ticket activity and the notifications members receive.

West Virginia 811 tickets subject to the 48-hour notice requirement will no longer expire. Expiration dates will be removed from applicable tickets.

As part of this change, the current “Update By” field will appear as “Sugg. Update (Suggested Update).” The Sugg. Update date will be calculated 30 calendar days from the ticket creation date and will serve as a best practice reminder for excavators while work remains active.

What will this mean for members?
Because applicable tickets will no longer expire, members may continue to receive notifications associated with ongoing excavation activity beyond the timeframe previously tied to a ticket expiration date.

The Sugg. Update date will not be an expiration date or deadline. Excavators will be encouraged to submit updates within 30 calendar days of the current ticket creation, but they can also submit an update after the Sugg. Update date.

When you receive an applicable ticket notification, continue following your normal processes for reviewing the ticket, marking underground facilities and providing the appropriate response in accordance with West Virginia requirements.

The removal of ticket expiration dates will not change member responsibilities associated with applicable ticket notifications. The Sugg. Update date will provide excavators with a recommended timeframe for keeping tickets current while work remains active.
