Important WV811 Change: Tickets No Longer Expire

Changes to West Virginia 811 Tickets
We want to make you aware of an important change coming to West Virginia 811 tickets that will affect how tickets are managed throughout ongoing excavation work.

West Virginia 811 tickets subject to the 48-hour notice requirement will no longer expire. Expiration dates will be removed from applicable tickets.

As part of this change, the current “Update By” field will appear as “Sugg. Update (Suggested Update).” The Sugg. Update date will be calculated 30 calendar days from the ticket creation date and will serve as a best practice reminder while work remains active.

What will this mean for your tickets?
If work is still active at the work site, WV811 best practice will be to submit an update within 30 calendar days of the current ticket creation. The Sugg. Update date will be a recommended timeframe, not a deadline or a new expiration date.

Tickets can still be updated after the Sugg. Update date.

While tickets will no longer expire, your responsibilities at the work site will remain the same. Under West Virginia law, excavators are responsible for protecting and preserving markers, stakes and other designations identifying the location of underground facilities. If markings are no longer visible or accurate, request a remark before continuing excavation.

For ongoing work, continue to keep your ticket information current, maintain visible and accurate markings, and use the Sugg. Update date as a reminder to submit updates throughout the life of your project.
